Blender workshop 2008

Vancouver, BC

The Univerisity of British Columbia Fisheries Centre is proud to host a one day Blender workshop on Sunday, 24th of August that functions as an introduction to Blender for beginners and a  get-together for existing Blender users around Greater Vancouver.

The idea came into being as the Fisheries Centre is currently working closely with two Blender artists in order to create an underwater scientific visualization using the Blender Game Engine.  The workshop is meant to provide beginner and intermediate Blender users with a better understanding of how the software works.  The venue also serves to provide a platform for local Blender users to meet each other and share ideas.

The course programme will be geared towards beginner to intermediate users with a focus on the Blender game engine, but the programme is subject to change based on interest.  We will talk a bit about the on-going UBC Fisheries project, what we have accomplished with Blender, and spend most of the time in hands-on labs.

Venue
This event will be held at ROOM 104 of the Fisheries Centre in the AERL Building (Aquatic Ecosystem Research Lab) at UBC's Point Grey Campus.  It can be easily access with numberous transit route(B-line 99, 84), pay parking is also available.

Cost and Logistics
The event will be free of charge.  Due to the limited computers we have, attendees are welcomed to bring their own (blender-capable) laptop computer for the event.  Wifi connection will be available.

Dalai has been using Blender since the beginning of his graduate study in Architecture and Urban Studies in 2003. His participation in the Blender Community includes a paper and a tutorial presented at the BlenderPRO Brazil 2007, an image published in a Blender magazine in Brazil, and a few patches incorporated in the upcoming Blender 2.47.
